simply july...

july 2010 has been the month where the mummy survived many husband-less days with the 2 kids. the daddy was away half the time, flying off to germany, korea and taiwan, no less... and our 'reward' from his trips came in the form of clothings, a noah's ark playmobil, a hello kitty brio kitchen set, a thomas & friends table, chocolate and not forgetting kimchi!!! am just so glad that the 'ordeal' is over, at least for now.

ethan:

july is also the month where ethan officially addressed the mummy as 'mummy' instead of 'his usual 'meh meh' (july 16 was the day!!!), the month where ethan surprised us with his knowledge of alphabets and numbers. it started with a 'B' and an 'Ó' and now its just so much more!!! he can now recognise almost all 26 letters of the alphabet although he still does get confused with letter 'd' and 'w' and thinking that its 'b' and 'm'. we are secretly really proud of him and my oh my, he can even recognise his 0s to 10s! and all this while, mum hasn't even sat him down and taught them to him at all! we think that he's just a little genius who learnt them all from playing with his vtech thomas & friends notebook all these while. he claps, dances and jumps for joy each time he answers the questions posed by the notebook correctly. he's just such a delight to watch! that cutie...ee.e..e.e.e..e.!!!!

each time ethan recognises and object or item that he spots in a book or elsewhere, he will call it to mum's attention and make sure that mum hears it loud and clear before he moves on. and then if he sees an item that he could associate with a song, mum would have to sing out the song for him. how does mum know? well, that clever boy would proceed to do the actions for the song and move on only when the song is finish. for instance:

a spider = an itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout...
a boat/ship = row, row, row your boat gently down the stream...
an apple = an apple a day keeps the doctor away...
wheels = the wheels on the bus goes round and round...
a fish = all the fishes are swimming in the water...
star = twinkle, twinkle little star...

and the list goes on. point taken, ethan!!!

these days, the boy has found a new way to amuse himself. one day at home, he started the 'blind running' game whereby he would stretch out both hands and with both eyes closed (partially!), he would start running round and round the furniture and then suddenly pretend to fall before picking himself up and going for more rounds. all these while, that cheeky grin would be kept on his face and the sister thinks that its a funny enough game and so she follows suit and now, both are at it! and besides dancing together to the hit music of 'i want nobody but you' by the korean wonder girls, the other thing that both of them enjoying doing together is in imitating peppa pig as she introduces her family at the beginning of every episode (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMk3h0AgEds). they would both talk, snort and laugh just like peppa and if there are 9 episodes in a dvd, they would do it 9 times without fail. its really quite hilarious watching them at it.

being all of 2, ethan's favourite word is now 'no!'. many a times when we asked if he wanna eat something or watch a specific program, he would go 'no', followed by the shaking of his head. he know makes his choices known and if he doesn't get it, he would display his 'únhappiness' by whining or even kicking up a fuss and crying. the other day, just because he didn't get to put on his favourite crocs with the thomas and percy jibbitz, he threw a huge tantrum and cried like nobody's business. on other days, if its this pair that you want him to put on but its the lightning mcqueen shoes that he fancies, he would not move an inch from the car till he gets his way. he's growing up and boy, he does make sure he is heard - loud and clear.

very often, ethan has been mistaken to be a girl even when he's dressed every inch like a boy from head to toe. and so, we took him for his first official haircut at the hair salon last month and that marked the very first of our family haircut at the same salon by the same hairdresser! yes, daddy, mummy and zoethan all together! initially, we were afraid that ah boy might not sit through the haircut, being every bit that active boy that he was, but he 'survived' his maiden haircut by sitting really quite still for a good 10 minutes! all the while, his eyes were just kept glued to the iphone, which was really just playing 'chicken little'. we are so...ooo...oo proud of him! who says kids should get their haircut at a kiddies only salon??? =p

at 2 years and 2 months, mummy is still nursing ah boy. as he hasn't been eating very much these weeks, so one day, out of the blue last month, mum offered him a bottle of pediasure formula milk to drink. being super curious, he took a sip and then guess what, he shoved the entire bottle back to mum! this is a stark contrast from his usual reactions! previously, he will attempt to finish up whatever unfinished milk from zoe's bottle once he spots the milk bottle lying around... but now, whenever mummy makes milk for zoe but pretends to hand the milk bottle to him instead, he will grin, then start shaking his head violently, exclaim, 'no!' and then run far away! goodness!!! mum is now super worried about when he can be weaned off the breast, afterall, he'll be starting playgroup next year already (mum's already enrolled him in the same apple tree playgroup that jie jie went to last year!)... Jesus, please help!!!

though there are photo collages of zoe at home, but till now, there's none of ethan. ah boy has been looking at the pictures and very often, mistaking some of them to be that of himself, especially pics of zoe in rompers! kekekekekke ;p

zoe:

in end june, zoe graduated from her yamaha music wonderland class and since the begining of july, she has started on the yamaha junior course, whick marks the beginning of a 4 year music foundation and developmental course for her. in addition, she's now on her second term of her jazz class and she has even been shortlisted by jody marshall (the founder of her dance school back in australia) herself while she was here for a short trip well over a week ago to sit for a dance exam this coming november! yes, a dance certificate awaits! the parents are super proud of her as not everyone recommended by the teachers were shortlisted, plus only 10% of the students were shortlisted with zoe being the youngest! whoa! she now has to take an additional dance class each week starting september and just for the exams, an angmoh dance teacher will be specially flown in from her dance school in australia to teach and cheorograph a dance for her for the upcoming exam. we can't wait to see how she will fare! with flying colours, no doubt!!!

back at home, zoe also dances each time there's music. the only difference - she cheorographs her own dances! look at her dance and one be amazed, there's rhythm and beat in her steps and she spins, twirls, and shakes her hips away! she's really a lil' 'wu-niang' in the making. her imagination takes her to places and very often, she's making up names for everyone in the family. for a period of time, daddy was 'mickey mouse', mummy was 'clearly', she herself was 'chlor-wer-ges' (think CHLORophyll + WERE + lozenGES) and ethan was 'herbie'. but in a matter of days, she added a 'smelly' in front of ethan's 'name' (smelly herbie) simply cos she was standing next to him and had smelt his poop! hahahahha :) then another time, she found a long white scarf that mummy had used to cover the new keyboard that the parents had bought for her, took it and attached it to the back of her panty and said it was her 'wedding dress'! all these while she was in her singlet and panty outfit at home but she was actually pretending that the scarf was part of her train on her ímaginary dress, just like the princesses that she reads about in her books! speaking of which, she has been alternating between her favourite 3 dresses and wearing it over her singlet and going to bed in it... yes, she's mum's lil' crazy nut...

these days, she has very much improved on her drawings and paintings and mum is just thinking of sending her to art classes in spite of her busy schedule. now, there's speech and drama on tuesdays, classes at yamaha on wednesdays, and dance classes on thursdays and saturdays and phonics and reading class on fridays. yes, a really busy bee she is!!!
