august, september and a wee bit of october updates...

zoe:

zoe's now gearing up for her dance exam in early november. her exam classes started in early august and she now dances 3 times a week, out of which, 2 are exam classes. mum's extremely pleased with teacher sarah (from australia) for she is extremely strict, and she even draws the curtains during practices so as to minimise distractions. the school's seems pretty confident that zoe will do well in the exams and the parents certainly too hope that she will pass with 'dancing' colours!

even though she's already 4 and a half, but she has yet to quit that 2 fingers sucking habit of hers. in fact, early last month, mum thought she was almost through with sucking her fingers, but alas, it was not to be. in fact, it seems that she is now sucking them more intensely than ever and more often than that lil' bro of hers! at every opportunity, so long as her hands are not busy, there you'll find those 2 fingers up in her mouth. as she is now being disciplined more often than before, mum is now left wondering if sucking her fingers does provide some form of consolation to her when she's super upset at being disciplined for she's constantly 'challenges' the parents with her rude replies and glares and it seems that she has problems controlling that temper of hers. the parents are at a loss besides trying their best to reason out with her (before 'escalating' into shouts and threats and canes) and mum is now leaving it to Jesus's hands when it comes to discipline. meantime, mum's only solution to curbing her habit is to apply the bitter nail polish on her fingers diligently, 3 times a day, just like medicine! gosh!!! as of now, this arrangement seems to have somewhat deterred her from sucking them quite a bit...

in late august, zoe attended one of her classmate's birthday party. boy, an extravagant party it was, for not only was there a magic show which thrilled the kids to bits, but a ballon sculpturist and a thomas the train pinanta too! the birthday boy, killian, was however rather shy and it was zoe, who gamely posed for pictures with all her classmates instead. yah, she took pics with everyone EXCEPT the birthday boy... hehehehe :)

besides going onboard a double decker bus (bus no. 7!) which made her super happy and watching avatar in 3d with the parents at lido, one could call september an 'ínjury month'. it was the month zoe visited the dentist for the very first time as her gums had been bleeding quite a bit. mummy, ethan and deborah were all in the room with her to 'give her courage'. there she was, looking cool in the sunglasses provided by the dentist and mum is glad that she survived through the visit. the pretty dentist commented that it was due to a built up of plaque on her teeth that had caused the bleeding. oops, guess that's what happens when she insists on brushing her teeth on her own, sans help. at least, her gums are bleeding no more for now. and her dentist visit was made all the happier when the doc blew up some latex glove balloons using her dental eqiupment! then for almost 2 weeks, zoe had an infected eyelid which left her with a swollen eye look and it was just horrid. as the right eyelid was recovering, the other eyelid got infected and not only that, her lips were peeling and bleeding and her fingers almost bruised from the constant sucking.

october also marked a month of several 'firsts' for zoe. this was the month she laid hands on her kiddy ezlink card. yes, she was made to pay for her bus fare as the driver had refused to drive on until the fare was paid... it was the month where she was disciplined and made to write, 'í will behave myself' a good twenty times as punishment. it was her 'moment of glory' on tv, her debut tv appearance as she was chosen by her dance school, along with rachel, march and caitlynn to dance on the LIVE tv program, one moment of glory (OMG) with the semi-finalists, the singapore char siew baos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUR_J3dLNYI / http://video.xin.msn.com/watch/video/one-moment-of-glory-episode-11/1gqeptz7e. and boy, did she totally enjoy herself!!!

ethan:

for the past 2 or 3 months, ethan has been going everywhere in his pair of mismatched crocs. everyone who has seen it thinks that we are setting a new fashion trend but that was not meant to be. somehow, we must have dropped one side of his favourite crocs while getting into the car, but that has not deterred him from putting the other side on - still. you see, that beloved pair of crocs had his thomas and friends jibbitz on it, and now, percy is gone, leaving behind only thomas. regardless, he still only insists on wearing that other side, and so the parents had no choice but to pair it up with his other mickey crocs. give him his other shoes and he shakes his head vehemently, refusing even to step out of the house/car. even the lightning mcqueen crocs wouldn't do. there was once when we stepped into a crocs store and he got all excited cos he had spotted a brand new pair of his crocs (the missing one!) which he promptly proceeded to put them on. he wasn't intending to take them off had we not shoved a pair of toy story crocs in his face!!! yes, woody and buzz lightyear did a good job distracting him and so we eventually bought it for him too, and at a good deal! but until he outgrows THAT pair of mismatched shoes, there is no way he would put on another pair... he's 'just 'hopelessly devoted to them!!!

for now, the boy at 29 months already knows his 1-10s and A to Zs very well. he can even tell you that a is for apple, b is for ball, f is for fish and so on. he recites the alphabets everywhere he goes, so long as he spots some alphabets or a word or two. we could be at the mall or in the car and out of the blue, he will start singing his ABC song loudly and clearly. not only that, he continues to surprise the mummy by being able to spell out words like, car, bus and jet! despite the parents not having sat him down formally to teach him, he continues to amaze us everyday with his knowledge and that the parents has only one thing to thank for: educational apps on the iphone and the vtech and leapfrog toys! yes, gadgets are his favourite and he can play with them for a really long time. he's always demanding for the iphone whenever he's buckled up, be it in the car seat or high chair or even the stroller. but the thing is, at least, he now knows how to ask politely by saying, 'phone please!' hehehe :)

these days, the boy seems to have developed a love for reading. previously, he couldn't sit still whenever mum tries to read to him, but now, he will bring a book and ask that it be read to him! his books of the moment is 'goldilocks and the three bears', 'the spider and the hive' and 'stone soup' from our mini scholastic book set. its just amazing how he can now sit and pour over the books on his own!

ethan has now learnt to pee on cue. he's really ready to be potty trained, just that the mum is a lil' too lazy to formally start doing it. for now, he aims and pees accurately into 'the hole' before his shower when asked to do it. he's a really smart boy who looks at things from many angles. for instance, hand him a neck pillow and he'll tell you that its a letter 'u'. having said that, he will then turn the pillow around and tells u that its now a letter 'c' or 'n' depending on which way you turn it. a wheel is not only a wheel, but a letter 'o' and a twig he found on the ground is a number '1'. he's just so amazing and now instead of just saying 'amen' whenever we say grace, he is able to complete the prayer on his own! all that mum needs to say is, 'thank you Jesus for the milk, (and he will then finish off the prayer, though not accurately), by saying 'bei bei is xxx and hearty (he's still learning to pronounce the word 'healthy'). Amen!!!' absolutely cute!

the cutie has watched toy story 3 so many times on the tv and iphone that he is now able to reenact the scene in it. his favourite part has gotta be when buzz, woody and friends have fallen into the pit and was about to be incinerated when 'the claw' (operated by the 3 aliens) rescued them. at that scene, he would be sure to ask for your hands to hold onto and would then close his eyes (at the exact scene), lean on your shoulder (as mr and mrs potato head lean towards each other) and then squirm like the show. its kinda difficult to describe it, but watching him do it is in fact, plain hilarious!!! we just love him to bits!!!
