31 December 2010

an eventful december...

the parents have missed church services four sundays in a row in decemember. on the first sunday, there was zoe's dance concert, second sunday, we were off to malaysia for a break, third sunday, zoe was nursing an eye infection while ethan was coughing and the fourth, the parents were turned away because all service venues were 'bursting at the seams'! sigh....

5 december marked zoe's fourth dance concert at jmdc. it was a concert that marked jmdc's first anniversary too and there, zoe performed a jazz number to the song, 'jailhouse rock' along with several other jazz girls. though it was a fun number, but mum didn't quite as much enjoyed it as her previous performances, perhaps because there was just too many of them on stage! but well, it was more important that she had a good time and it was also at the time when her dance exam results were announced - zoe had 'honours' for her exams!!! with the top results being 'honours distinction', zoe had definitely fared well, this being her very first exam with her scores being in the range of between 90-95. the parents were definitely proud of her! 3 cheers for zoe - hip hip hooray!!!

right after the concert, the parents ushered zoe to gap at wisma atria as they were holding a casting call then for kids to be the 'face of their spring 2011 collection' across asia. looking at how the other parents before us were making faces and cajoling their kids into looking, posing and smiling at the camera, we are just glad that zoe is such a natural! not that the parents are biased, but she definitely needed little or zero persuasion and the pictures turned out just perfect!!!

december was the month when we had our third family haircut, where zoe got a spanking new 16" bicycle, and where we went on our fifth or sixth KL road trip! we stayed at the gardens hotel in mid-valley for the fifth time in a row and there we indulged ourselves silly with kenko's fish spa therapy and the kids totally love it!!! they were totally unfearful of the fish 'biting' them but ethan just drove mum super nuts from dunking his feet from one pool to the next every 3 minutes or so! besides, it was restaurant indulgence at every meal, from japanese cuisine to taiwanese, from din tai fung to italiannies, with prices off at least 50% as compared to singapore... and we look forward to more this coming lunar new year... yes, we be 'balek-ing (daddy's!) kampung' during the cny period. how e.x.c.i.t.i.n.g.....

december marked GLEE month, where the parents were watching every episode of glee from season 1 and 2 almost every other day, with the kids quickly catching up and watching together with the parents at every waking moment. in fact, they have been 'glee-ed' and enjoy singing and dancing to the songs performed in the show right till today. daddy still plays the songs in the car as well as the mtv when at home almost everyday. its just plain hilarious seeing zoethan singing and dancing along to the music! mum is just amazed by how zoe can sing quite a few of the songs when the parents can barely catch the lyrics, plus the dance steps! really, its just all in her head and ethan's too!!!

finally, december was 'injury month' when zoe, once again, caught an eyelid infection which made her eyes looked really awful, and add that to the fact that she couldn't stop rubbing them and thus it took almost a good 3 weeks before she totally recovered. thank God! as for ethan, he gave the parents and grandparents the 'scare of their lives' when he slipped off the cushion of the grandparents' rosewood sofa while jumping which then resulted in him diving straight for the corner of the rosewood (glasstop) table. though it wasn't exactly a really sharp corner, but the impact was so strong that it literally cut a hole through the right side of his face (exactly next to the mouth!)! everyone was freaked out as fresh, red blood was just gushing out non-stop even after mum tried stopping it with tons of tissue. mum was hysterical and screaming while zoe was frightened and crying and ethan was well, in tears!!! he was rushed straight to the a&e at kkh where the doc took a look and decided that the gap had to be stitched up.

the boy was just crying non-stop, but thankfully he calmed down quite a bit after reaching the hospital. the next 3 hours went by in a blur as we had to wait for the dinner (that he was having at the point of the accident) to digest before he could be 'operated on'. in those 3 hours, he had the ipad for company and the freaky cartoons from cartoon network that the hospital was playing. strangely enough, all that was sufficient to make him forget his pain and he even started jumping and prancing around - in his super soaked blood-stained singlet and shorts. it was just painful to watch him. he was in and out of the operating theatre within 30 minutes where he was given a total of 5 stitches, 3 on the outside and 2 on the insides of his mouth. he came out groggy, in a dreamy state as the anesthetics that were administered on him only caused him to be sorta 'unfeeling', but 'not sleeping'.

it was a heart wrenching sight seeing him with the stitches and being in a semi-conscious state. his eyes were wide opened, yet they look blank. he was moving about slowly and trying to push himself up but the nurse said that he was actually in a dreamy state, not having awoken yet. he went on like this for at least 30 minutes or so before he finally fell asleep. an hour later, he was woken up by the parents for the nurse to access his condition to see if all is fine. naturally, that quick one hour nap was sufficient to get him out of the groggy state, but he was totally tired out by the turn of events and couldn't stop crying. thankfully, the doctor certified him fit to go home, which was just a relief for the parents, who were just thankful that he was up and jumping on the bed at 3.30am after his shower, as if nothing had happened!

fast forward to a week later, the stitches were removed and he didn't flinched one bit as the nurses cut the stitches away. in fact, the nurses were amazed and happy that he was just lying really still, and showing barely any emotion at all when it happened. perhaps, we should thank wall-e for it because his eyes were just glued to watching wall-e on mummy's iphone! hehe :) it was a truly amazing recovery for there was barely any scar and unless one looks really closely, no one would have been able to tell that he had had a horrible cut only a week ago. indeed, God is GOOD, and ALL THE TIME! Amen!!!
